The SALA Festival is a free statewide celebration of the visual arts as seen through exhibitions, open studios, special events, talks, moving image screenings, and more.
August is often cold and wet, and with the current financial crisis we need more than ever to feed our minds and souls. This year we have asked artists and venues to nominate themselves in one of six categories. Our official program will colour code these categories, and in doing so make it easier for our audiences to plan their SALA trips this year.
A new Constitution and re-configured Board, along with a new and energetic General Manager, Penny McAuley, means SALA ’09 should be better than ever. We have set ourselves some big targets to achieve over the coming months:
- Double the number of artists on our online database and have this as an effective source of information all year round;
- Build on decentralising SALA so local communities have greater ownership of SALA (let us know if you want to volunteer to co-ordinate things in your region);
- Improve our website and make it more informative and easier to navigate;
- Most importantly, we aim at listening to our audiences and artists to further improve SALA.
