David's most recent paintings are about rocks, stones, paths and space. They embody ideas about life journeys, literal journeys and positive and negative space. His paintings are also about painting itself -- his use of colour, surface and positining has been developing over many years as a painter. David works in Adelaide and travels regularly in Australia and internationally. For the last couple of years David has been focusing his attention on Shanghai where he is a regular visitor.Medium: PaintingRegion: City of Adelaide/North Adelaide
David Reid is a contemporary painter who studied at the University of New South Wales and Sydney University. Currently based in Adelaide's Hindley Street arts precinct, Davids' work is held in private, public and corporate collections around Australia and the world. He was the Caltex Masters Choice selection of Keith Looby in his early career and has been a finalist in the Alice Price (NT), the Mosman Art Prize [most recently in 2007] and the Musswelbrook Art Prize. Reid has had exhibitions around Australia, including the Tamworth City Gallery, Armidale City Art Gallery, throughout Sydney and at FlightPath, Gray Hawk Gallery and Aptos Cruz Gallery in Adelaide. David's work is abstract, spontaneous and fluid in nature. His three primary media are oil on canvas, ink on paper and printmaking. Although a native of Sydney Harbour, he has been profoundly influenced by the light and colours of the Adelaide climate as well as by his travel to the city of Shanghai.
